Welcome to Karijini Eco Retreat – a unique, 100% Aboriginal-owned glamping experience located on the edge of Joffre Gorge (Jijingunha) in Western Australia’s breathtaking Karijini National Park.
Karijini Eco Retreat was established to open up access to this remote and ancient landscape inviting guests to stay, explore, and connect with country in a meaningful way.
Owned by Gumala Enterprises & Development Pty Ltd on behalf of the Banjima, Yinhawangka, and Nyiyaparli people, the Retreat exists to create opportunities for Traditional Owners through training, employment, cultural exchange, and environmental stewardship.
Nestled deep in the rugged Pilbara, the Retreat offers safari-style eco tents, cabins, campsites, and one of Australia’s most remote outback restaurants. Guests can wander through towering gorges, swim in hidden waterholes, marvel at wildflowers and wildlife, and gaze at the Milky Way under a sky free of light pollution.

Restaurant and Bar
The fully licensed Karijini Outback Restaurant offers alfresco dining, with cooked and continental breakfasts, a la carte or picnic lunches, mouth-watering outback-style dinners and a takeaway burger bar.
Relax with an ice-cold glass of your favourite beverage in our well-stocked bar where you can mingle with staff and other guests and share tales of your day’s adventures!

Kiosk
Ice, cold drinks, ice creams, confectionery, takeaway tea and coffee are available as well as a range of unique Karijini souvenirs including Aboriginal artwork and homewares, subject to available supply.
Due to our remote location, we are a cashless venue.
Bush BBQ facilities
For those looking to self-cater, a number of free outdoor covered BBQ areas (gas barbeques, sinks, preparation areas, seating and tables) are scattered around the Karijini Eco Retreat.
Please note: Open fires are not permitted to be lit in the Karijini National Park.
Ablutions
Flushing toilets and solar hot water showers (standard and bag type) are provided in the ablution blocks available in each loop to service the Campsites and next to the Reception – these facilities are cleaned daily. The camp loops do not have water connections, grey water disposal, or sewage dump points for caravans or campervans.
The Luxury Eco Tents, Premium Eco Tents and Deluxe Eco Tents have private ensuite bathrooms with a flushing toilet, solar hot water shower and basin.
Please note: Due to the use of solar power, we are unable to guarantee the provision of hot water as this is subject to weather conditions.

Public Payphone
A public payphone is provided for the convenience of guests and is situated adjacent to the manager’s residence.
Mobile Phone Signal
Telstra and Optus
Guests using Optus and Telstra networks have mobile phone and data connectivity at the Karijini Eco Retreat and Karijini Visitor Centre. Please note that service is limited and speeds can vary depending on network availability and the number of guests using the facility (these factors are not under our control). Due to the large area the park covers, signal is patchy in other places and there is no signal in the gorges. Mobile phones can be charged in a range of our Eco Tents and Cabins, but our campsites do not have access to power. Generators are permitted between 2pm and 4pm and many people choose to bring a small power bank or solar phone charger with them.
Walk Trails
Joffre Gorge is the closest gorge to the Karijini Eco Retreat, reached by an easy bush walk. A short track runs from the Retreat to a lookout with incredible views up and down Joffre Gorge. There is another lookout on the other side of the gorge, accessed from the carpark, which is a metal deck suspended above the gorge. This one overlooks the falls and the plunge pool at their base.
Joffre’s waterfall is usually dry and flows impressively after rains. Follow the marked route or new steel staircase and ladder system into the bottom of the gorge to see Joffre Gorge’s curved walls forming a natural amphitheater with an amazing natural waterfall.
